Gianna Devita

Counseling Intern

Gianna (she/her) is a counseling intern who is currently pursuing her Master’s in SocialWork (MSW) at the University of Denver, with a concentration in Mental Health. Gianna creates a warm and compassionate space open to explore whatever is bringing you into therapy. She creates a collaborative environment that allows for curiosity and exploration into ones emotion’s and life struggles. Gianna is passionate about working with children, adolescents, and adults varying from areas like trauma, anxiety, depression, attachment, life transitions, and women’s issues.

Gianna’s clinical approach pulls from a variety of therapeutic modalities including cognitive behavioral theory (CBT), narrative therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT), dialect behavior therapy (DBT), solution-focused therapy (SFT), and internal family systems (IFS). She takes a person centered approach allowing for the client to always been seen and heard. She also includes somatic healing and learning into her practice by incorporating physical movement and body scans to help the client learn where they feel certain emotions within the body.


Before joining Be and Belong Counseling, Gianna worked as a Community Support CaseManager for Clarvida. Here she worked with families and adolescents who were in jeopardy of being removed from the home. She honed her skills in trauma informed careand evidence based practices. She would engage in home visits and goal setting to help the child and family to stay unified as well as work towards a more successful home and community for the family and child.

 

Outside of therapy, Gianna loves all things outdoors (hiking, camping, swimming, ski/snowboarding, etc.)! She also has a passion for the arts, whether that is through theatre, music, fashion, or poetry. She loves spending time with her friends and family, as well as enjoying some delicious food!

Cultural Resume

  • I am a white, second generation, Italian American. Both side of family are fromItalian roots and heritage.
  • I grew up in the suburbs North of New York City in an upper-middle class familywith married parents.
  • I was raised to practice religion as a Roman Catholic but now practice spiritualityin my own unique way rather than through an organized religion.
  • I am neurodivergent as I am diagnosed with ADHD, Dyslexia, and a Processing Disorder.
  • I have faced gender based discrimination, personal biases, sexual harassment and assault as a woman.

 

  • I recognize that I hold many privileges in society which include being a white, cis-gender, English-speaking, U.S. citizen, who is able bodied, thin, housed, educated, with access to mental and physical healthcare.
  • I identify as a bisexual woman, who is an ally to the LGBTQIA+ community as well as surround myself with friends and family who identify within the LGBTQIA+ community.
  • I am actively unlearning the many biases that were taught to me as a child. I have done much work to unlearn, but recognize that there is still much to learn.
